Make sure, and when I say make sure, I mean to be 100% sure without a doubt that you have the exact sizes of raw window and door openings. This will require someone to contact the manufacturers of these products to get the correct sizes for the finished doors and windows and the required rough opening sizes to put everything together effortlessly.


Here is an example of what I am talking about. The plans tell you that the window will be 4 feet high and 6 feet wide. Being a smart person, you understand that this window will be 48 inches tall by 72 inches wide and that is the size that the opening should be.


Wrong, and when I say wrong, I mean to change every opening that you framed incorrectly and never forget this lesson. Let's say you framed the rough opening at 48 "x 72" and the size of the finished window is 47 "x 70.5". 


Now you will need to add materials to the bottom or top of the raw frame or you will not be able to nail the window properly into the house. Believe it or not, what I'm talking about is not uncommon in new construction. 


Don't forget that if you are building a new house, you will have to do this for all the windows in the house. This is exactly what I am talking about. Make sure you take the time to get the correct door and window opening sizes. This can save you a lot of time and money later.ESWDA
